day 1
Taormina at sunset
Welcome to Baroque Sicily, a combination of imposing churches, strikingly beautiful buildings and majestic skylines offering a broad spectrum of colours, from the pink gold of limestone to the silvery black of lava flows.
With convenient private transport you will travel to beautiful Taormina; an elegant natural terrace overlooking the Ionian Sea, where beauty is at home, not only for its viewpoints where you will be bowled over by the infinite beauty of these places, but also for its history and its wonders.
Take a walk along the lively Corso Umberto I, where you will discover restaurants, trendy bars, shops and characteristic stores, take in the romantic Piazza IX Aprile and the incredible views from its balcony; the Cathedral of San Nicola with its beautiful baroque fountain, the Roman “Naumachie”, the fifteenth-century Palazzo Corvaja and much more.
And while the warm sunset light begins to colour everything red and orange, you can sit back and relax with a delicious aperitif on the panoramic terrace of one of the best restaurants in the city, where chatting with a Spritz or a glass of good wine, you will enjoy the evocative panorama of the smoking Etna and the illuminated coast.
day 2
Catania Street Food
Prepare to take a gourmet walk through the streets of Catania, an impressive mix of Baroque architecture, where the deep black lava stone and marbles that embellish buildings and monuments hide the locations where the secrets of the local gastronomic tradition are jealously guarded.
You will visit the central Piazza Duomo, where you can admire the famous Fountain of the Elephant and the splendid Cathedral of Sant’Agata; you will reach the lively Pescheria market, amidst the shouting of the sellers offering their products; and locals weighed down with their shopping, you can taste delicious local products and the best fried fish in the city.
Take a leisurely stroll along the most beautiful and evocative streets such as Via dei Crociferi and Via Etnea, before reaching Piazza Stesicoro where part of an ancient Roman Amphitheatre is visible.
Then when you start to get hungry, you will taste the best arancini from Catania and the famous “cipollina”, a specialty made with puff pastry, tomato, onion, mozzarella and ham.
After crossing the “Fera o’ Luni”, another characteristic local market where you will also find local clothing and crafts, you will come to a famous kiosk to cool off with a typical Seltz, a delicious drink made from carbonated water, lemon juice or syrups and salt.
Finally, as a worthy end to a tasty day of walking in Catania, you can recharge your batteries with a mixed dish of grilled meat and horse meatballs directly in front of you and a tasty cipollata (pork bacon wrapped on a long onion), before a last stop in the pastry shop for the delicious traditional desserts (cannoli, cassata and almond paste) or the famous Sicilian granita.
day 3
Etna and its flavours
Enjoy this exciting experience on Etna, the largest volcano in Europe and one of the most active in the world, whose slopes are home to vineyards, olive groves, pistachios, hazelnuts and fruit orchards, where unique and excellent products are born.
Admire the ancient “sciàres” (solidified lava), the extinct craters, woods or caves made from lava.
Then you get to the tastiest part of the day; a visit to a wine cellar, where immersed in vineyards with a breath-taking view, you can taste the typical wines of Etna and find out how and where they are produced. These wines with a special aroma, mainly due to the very fertile volcanic soil, will be accompanied by many Sicilian specialties, seasonal vegetables and fruits, typical desserts and espresso coffee.
day 4
Goodbye to the next experience
Your experience comes to an end today but the memory of a land full of wonders, where well-being and relaxation come together in nature, along with culture and local specialties will stay with you forever!
