Tour 8 days – 7 nights


1st Day: Tour start, Rome

Group arrives in Rome and transfers to hotel. Free time for a first city tour. Return to the hotel. Dinner and overnight stay.

2nd Day: Rome, Colle del Celio

Breakfast at the hotel and depart for the Basilica di San Giovanni e Paolo al Celio. According to tradition the basilica is built on the house of the martyrs John and Paul. The group will visit the Domus del Celio where ruins of a residential Roman structure are located under the basilica. The tour continues with San Clemente ed i Santi Quattro Coronati al Celio and its internal chapel of St. Sylvester. Lunch. In the afternoon the group will visit the Basilica di Santa Maria Maggiore, one of the four papal basilicas which retain an intact paleochristian structure. The visit continues with the Basilica of Saint Praxedes and Saint Pudenziana. Return to the hotel, dinner and overnight stay.

3rd Day: Rome, Vatican Museums

Breakfast at the hotel. The tour starts with a visit to the Vatican Museums with the famous Sistine Chapel. The group will visit the Candelabra Gallery, the Gallery of Maps and Arazzi and finally the Palazzi Apostolici, the oldest part of the museums in which are located the rooms of Giulio II splendidly decorated by Raffaello Sanzio and his pupils. The tour continues with a visit to the most famous of Michelangelo’s masterpieces and St. Peter’s Basilica, the most important temple of Christianity. Lunch. In the afternoon the group wil visit Castel Sant’Angelo, which was first a mausoleum and then a military fortress. It was a dark and terrible prison and became afterwards a splendid house of the Renaissance era thanks to Michelangelo, then again a prison during the Risorgimento and finally a museum. Castel Sant’Angelo embodies the events of the “Eternal City” in its majestic Roman spaces, in the mighty walls, in the sumptuous frescoed rooms where past and present seem to be one. Return to the hotel, dinner and overnight stay.

4th Day: Rome, Sorrento Peninsula

Breakfast at the hotel and tour of the capital city’s squares. We will make a stop at Trevi Fountain, the most majestic Roman fountains. We will take a walk through Piazza di Spagna with its famous steps and Piazza della Rotonda where the Pantheon is located. Our pleasant walk will end in Piazza Navona, the most famous Baroque masterpiece in Rome. In the middle of the square there is the Fountain of the four rivers by Gian Lorenzo Bernini. Lunch. In the afternoon we will depart for Campania. Accomodation in hotel on the Sorrento Peninsula, dinner and overnight stay.

5th Day: Naples

Breakfast at the hotel and Naples city tour. The visit starts from Posillipo hill with its view over the Bay and continues through Via Caracciolo, Partenope and Santa Lucia; the morning visit ends in Piazza del Plebiscito. Lunch. In the afternoon the group will visit the San Martino Museum and its Belvedere. This museum is a treasure chest of art and houses the Nativity scene by Cuciniello. Return to the hotel, dinner and overnight stay.

6th Day: Pompeii, Vesuvius

Breakfast at the hotel and depart for Pompeii. The group will visit the archaelogical ruins. The tour starts at the Roman Forum, the centre of public and religious life, and continues to Via dell’Abbondanza, the thermal baths and the Lupanare. The group will depart for Mount Vesuvius, one of the few active volcanos in Europe. There are vineyards on the fertile soil of the crater’s slopes. DOC wines are produced here, the most famous is the Lacryma Christi. The group will have lunch and the chance to sample 4 wines: white, red and vintage rose, Aglianico maestro 2007 and Vesuvius’ distilled peach juice. Return to the hotel, dinner and overnight stay.

7th Day: Caserta, Casertavecchia

Breakfast at the hotel. The group will depart for a visit at the Royal Palace of Caserta and its gardens, a wonderful example of Vanvitelli’s art. Lunch. The tour continues to Casertavecchia, an old medieval town with its Duomo and tower bell, the ruins of the castle and the typical alleys. Return to the hotel, dinner and overnight stay.

8th Day: Sorrento Peninsula, Departure

Breakfast at the hotel, free time and departure.
