Lipari and its sisters:
the Aeolian Islands

  • DESTINATION: Aeolian Islands
  • MACROZONE: Southern Italy
  • COLLECTION:
  • THEME: Historical & Cultural Heritage
  • ACCOMODATION:
  • DURATION: Tour - 8 days/7 nights

Home to Aeolus, Hephaestus and Cyclops, the Aeolian Islands have been forged by the fire of volcanoes and the warm African winds, each with a different character, attitude and ambitions. However, they all have one thing in common: the sea with crystal clear water, volcanic origin and a harsh and fragrant inland of Mediterranean scrub; in addition to the fact that they have been included by UNESCO in the World Heritage list.

From the moment you arrive you will feel the great energy that this archipelago emanates and you will fall in love with it!

day 1

Welcome to the Aeolian Islands

Lipari is the ideal starting point for an exciting adventure immersed in the elements of nature: Earth, Fire, Water and Air, which in these beautiful islands of Sicily meet and collide daily.

The largest and liveliest island in the archipelago will welcome you and amaze you with its Castle, the characteristic alleyways that flank the main street, the beautiful panoramic viewpoints but above all coves and wonderful beaches where you can relax after a rich day of discovery.

day 2

Lipari, the great

On board a convenient private car, you will be accompanied to discover the most evocative places in Lipari.

One of them, the Belvedere Quattrocchi, where you can take beautiful photographs of the coast, the Faraglioni rock formations that rise up from the sea and Vulcano with its smoking crater.

Then there are the delightful towns of Pianoconte, Quattropani, Acquacalda and Canneto; the splendid stretches of beach that have transformed obsidian flows and pumice expanses into surreal places and finally the area called San Salvatore, where the INGV Volcanological Observatory is located (not open to visitors).

From here you will have a privileged view of Vulcano and the cliff that reaches the sea; weather permitting, you will also have the opportunity to see in the distance the silhouettes of Filicudi and Alicudi.

Then it will be time for the tastiest time of the day;  a visit to a local wine cellar, where immersed in the magical atmosphere of a vineyard that smells of the sea, you will enjoy a delicious lunch based on local products and a platter of selected typical products, all accompanied by a glass of red, white or rosé wine.

day 3

Vulcan, the island of fire

At the port you will find the characteristic private gozzo boat with which you will reach the fascinating Vulcano for an exciting boat tour of the island.

From the unique perspective of the sea, you can admire natural beauties such as Vulcanello and the Bay of Black Sands, before reaching the famous Grotta del Cavallo and the nearby Piscina di Venere which together make up one of the most exciting coastal landscapes on the island.

And finally, you will visit the village of Gelso, a small village known for its tiny bay of black sand and its lighthouse, where you can cool off with a relaxing dip in the clear waters of the Aeolian Islands.

day 4

Day off and at sunset… Panarea!

A day at your disposal to dedicate to total relaxation, during which you can discover the true jewel of Lipari: its enchanting beaches.

The choice is between pebbles and fine sand, between areas where nature reaches the sea and more severe landscapes. In any case, you will be conquered by the crystal clear sea and that relaxed atmosphere that you can feel as time seems to pass a little bit slower.

One of the most fascinating areas is White Beaches, north of Canneto, famous for its characteristic white seabed, due to the massive presence of pumice stone that gives the water incredible shades of colour.
In the evening, you can opt to spend time in Panarea, the most exclusive island of the archipelago.

Take a suggestive sail at sunset on a characteristic gozzo boat to reach the small island, where you will be captured by its charm and the picturesque intricate alleys and streets of the centre.

Finally, you can stop off for dinner in one of the many restaurants to taste the typical Aeolian cuisine, before returning to Lipari under a beautiful starry sky.

day 5

Salina, the green island

After a short cruise aboard a characteristic gozzo, you will reach the land of capers and Malvasia, for a beautiful boat ride around the island.

While sailing, it will be fantastic to admire the famous bay of Pollara with its characteristic “Balate”, known for having been the set where some scenes of “Il Postino” by Massimo Troisi were filmed.

Along fantastic cliffs and cliffs shaped by nature, in between chatter and dips in the enchanting sea of the Aeolian Islands, you enter the port.

From here, a driver/guide will accompany you to the most beautiful places in Salina: from Santa Marina to the romantic hamlet of Lingua, where there is the salt lake to which the island owes its name; from Leni to the village of Rinella, where there is the only sandy beach on the island; from Malfa to the charming village of Pollara.

A worthy way to end the day will be a very interesting visit to the cellar of a well-known local winery where the wine is still produced using traditional techniques, using Malvasia grapes and the rare Corinto Rosso grape variety.

You will then get to take part in a tasting tour of the company’s wines, accompanied by delicious snacks prepared with local products.

day 6

Free day and sunset between the Faraglioni

Prepare to live a day dedicated entirely to relaxation, alternating walks in search of some beautiful souvenirs among the delightful alleys of the centre, to refreshing swims at some of the most beautiful beaches of Lipari.

Afterwards, at sunset, aboard a characteristic gozzo, you can take in and appreciate this island even more, perhaps sipping on an aperitif among the Faraglioni rocks, with Vulcano as your background.

day 7

Stromboli, the black pearl

As soon as you land you will immediately feel the energy that exudes from this island and from “Iddu” (Stromboli), the only volcano in Europe and among the few in the world permanently active!

Leaving the port you can browse the town, crossing steep streets flanked by prickly pears, caper plants, flowers and typical shops where you can taste the local delicacies; before reaching the panoramic Piazza San Vincenzo.

From here, which is the best viewpoint on the island, you will admire a spectacular view of the Mediterranean with a privileged view of Strombolicchio.

For an unforgettable experience, you can opt to take part in a group excursion for a climb to the crater of Stromboli, where the fatigue from about 3 hours of walking will be largely rewarded by the incredible spectacle of magma explosions.

day 8

Goodbye until the next experience

Your experience ends today, but the memory of the emotions felt in the Aeolian Islands will stay with you forever!
