Assisi and its Saint
“O Most High, all-powerful, good Lord God, to you belong praise, glory, honour and all blessing. Be praised, my Lord, for all your creation and especially for our Brother Sun, who brings us the day and the light; he is strong and shines magnificently. O Lord, we think of you when we look at him. Be praised, my Lord, for Sister Moon, and for the stars which you have set shining and lovely in the heavens… Praise and bless our Lord, give thanks to Him and serve Him in all humility”.
From “Praise of God’s Creation”

Tour 4 days – 3 nights

1st Day: Tour start, Assisi

Group arrives in Assisi and transfers to hotel. We will meet our guide and start our city tour with the Basilica of St. Clare, St. Rufino and finally the Basilica of St. Francis. We will have the chance to attend the church service. Return to the hotel, dinner and overnight stay.

2nd Day: Assisi, Santa Maria degli Angeli, San Gregorio

We will attend the Holy Mass in the morning at the Basilica of St. Francis, have breakfast and free time for individual visits. Lunch. In the afternoon we will visit the Basilica di Santa Maria degli Angeli (Saint Mary of the Angels) which houses the Porziuncola Chapel and the Chapel of the Transito. We will then depart for San Gregorio of Assisi. This town most probably owes its name to St. Gregory, a priest native of Spoleto who became a martyr under Diocleziano. We will visit the Castle which retains much of its original structure and which dates back to 1300, even though it was fortified in 1479. Return to the hotel, dinner and overnight stay.

3rd Day: Assisi, Greccio, Spoleto

Breakfast at the hotel and depart for Greccio, where St. Francis reproduced the first Nativity scene in 1223 with real people. We will visit the Sanctuary. Lunch. In the afternoon we will visit Spoleto, which still holds its unchanged medieval look. It was first a prosperous Longobardic Dukedom and became afterwards an important centre of the Papal State. The majestic Tower Bridge, the Duomo with its rich furnishings and mosaics on the facade and the Romanesque Church of St. Eufemia are the most interesting sights of this town. Return to the hotel, dinner and overnight stay.

4th Day: Assisi, Sansepolcro, Departure

Breakfast at the hotel and depart for Sansepolcro and Eremo di Montecasale, one of the favourite places of St. Francis who often lived here. Many miracles happened in this place and are described in his florilegium. The last stay of St. Francis dates back to the end of September 1224 after his return from Verna where he received the stigmata. We will visit the place with the guardian friar. Lunch and departure.
